Education of a cat

 Educating a cat means to allow it to live in an environment of human beings, to live in harmony and with respect to different species.

You have to accept the role of the mother to which the cat will turn to find confidence and protection. Protect it, it is so important. Its growth and balance depend on your attention.

The essential phase for education happens to be the period between the birth and the first six months. The majority of the different behaviors are learned until the age of three months, depending on the contact to the mother, sisters and brothers. At the moment you purchase a new kitten your contribution to the basic education is limited, but you have to complete and correct it in the new environment.

A cat needs to see the consequences of its actions. It needs to know its limits as soon as possible.

Never hit your cat in order to correct it; the hands have to be the association to tenderness.

Punish your cat only if you surprise it by doing something wrong, if not it won’t understand the reason of the punishment. With a cat, you need to have mutual agreements. If you want him to do or not to do something, you have to give him a counter offer. A water sprayer, like the one you use for watering your flowers for example, is very useful for punishment. You can spray some water drops on its body as soon as you catch it in action by doing something wrong. It is important to it from some distance, so the cat doesn’t recognize that you are spraying the water, but it will think that as soon that it does this certain action, water will be sprayed on its body. This procedure will make it understand not to start over again.

Most of the time the cat uses its claws to mark their territory. If you want to avoid multiple damages, without taking away its natural behavior, give it a little cat tree or something similar. It is also recommended to cut the extremities of the claws.
