The origin of the name (Sphinx)

Also known as the “naked cats” the sphynx doesn’t really come from Egypt . Even if a lot of people believe otherwise, the name of the sphinx has its origin from the typical straight up sitting position which resembles of the sphinx statues of the ancient Egypt. The big sphinx of Egypt symbolizes generally a god or a sun divinity.

As the incarnation of a pharaoh, it has to fight against its enemies and to protect the good. As a representative of a sun god on earth, he protects the occidental regions from where the sun rises. The big Sphynx represents the incarnation of royal power and the protection of the temple gates.
